Everyone’s motoring needs are different so RAC offer a wide range of roadside cover and assistance plans, meaning you only pay for the cover you want. You can choose from basic cover which will provide you with emergency roadside assistance, or go for a more comprehensive recovery package which could include services such as European breakdown cover and emergency transport to your destination.  You can also choose the type of cover you want, choose between personal or vehicle based cover.

With over 2,000 patrols working across the UK RAC are able to efficiently assist motorists at the roadside or at home. RAC’s experienced technicians will always attempt to fix your car on the spot to get you back on the road, but if this is not possible then they will make the repair process as fast and hassle free as possible.

Levels of Available Breakdown Cover

Roadside is RAC’s basic level of cover which provides you with roadside assistance 24 hours a day anywhere in the UK (as long as you have broken down at least a quarter of a mile away from home). Most breakdowns can be fixed on the spot, but on rare occasions when an RAC Patrol can't fix your vehicle at the scene they will tow you to an approved garage within 10 miles. Roadside Assistance also includes ‘RAC Accident Care’ which gives you access to RAC approved solicitors and personal injury claims experts should you need them.

Roadside + Nationwide Recovery by basic Roadside Assistance cover but with added Recovery protection. The added Recovery protection will transport you and up to 7 other people to your destination if your vehicle cannot be fixed at the roadside. RAC will also provide the same transport service if you are taken ill and cannot continue your journey and have no passengers who can drive the vehicle for you.

Roadside + At Home is a combination of RAC’s At Home and Roadside Assistance services. This option provides you with full roadside support across the whole UK and at your home. Because vehicles left overnight can often experience engine issues (especially in colder weather), the ‘At Home’ aspect of this option could be very beneficial if you are a commuter or live in a rural area.

Roadside + Nationwide Recovery + Onward Travel includes RAC’s basic Roadside level of cover, plus Nationwide Recovery. It also includes the additional benefit of Onward Travel cover which will provide you with a replacement vehicle for up to 3 days whilst yours is being repaired. Alternatively RAC will provide overnight accommodation or alternative transport costs. 

Roadside + At Home + Nationwide Recovery will provide you with mechanical assistance at the roadside, and also give you the peace of mind that you are fully covered, from your doorstep at home to your chosen destination. This package also includes Recovery cover enabling you and up to 7 others to get to your destination if your vehicle cannot be effectively repaired at the roadside. Transport as above will also be provided if you're taken ill and cannot continue your journey, and have no passengers who can drive the vehicle.

Roadside + Nationwide Recovery + At Home + Onward Travel this deluxe option gives you total breakdown and repair assistance if you are on the road or at home as well as a range of replacement transport options such as Nationwide Recovery transport, three days use of a hired car, money for alternative transport, or overnight accommodation with the provided Onward Travel cover.

Types of Available Breakdown Cover

You can also choose the type of cover you want, choose between personal or vehicle based cover.

With Vehicle Based Cover you can choose to cover up to three vehicles, no matter who drives them.

One vehicle – One named vehicle is covered, any driver
Two vehicles – Two named vehicles are covered, any driver
Three vehicles – Three named vehicles are covered, any driver

Personal Based Cover allows the named people to be covererd in any non commercial vehicle*

Single - Covers you in any vehicle as a driver or passenger
Joint - Covers you and one other named member of your household as a driver or passenger in any vehicle
Family -Covers you and up to four named members of your household as a driver or passenger in any vehicle

* And excludes some other vehicle types also.
